The international airport at Kochi situated in the southern state of Kerala is the first Indian airport that was built and developed under the PPP or the Public Private Partnership model. Unlike other PPP ventures which have not really picked up this airport has become a developmental model for many enterprises especially in the sector of civil aviation. Currently two terminals, one domestic and one international are operational at the airport. A new third terminal is currently under construction and will become operational by 2017. The domestic terminal has a total of 36 check-in counters out of which 6 are premium and 4 are completely automated. A total of 6 security gates are in place. A highly modern and efficient common room is also in service which has the capacity of handling 400 passengers at a time.
